What were you working on?
Ask returns one answer with evidence you can open in Today. Follow-ups like “tell me more” stay in this thread until New question. Clearing Kairos data on this computer also clears Ask follow-up memory.

Why Kairos stays private
Your journal never leaves this machine — local disk only, wipeable anytime. No screen recording. No cloud sync of your day.
We never collect screen pixels, OCR, keystrokes, or message bodies. Symbolic memory only: apps, optional file paths, optional agent claims.
Same short walkthrough as the ? button in the top bar — Today, Ask, and where privacy lives.
Updates
Update checks run inside the Kairos app.
When on, Kairos installs updates quietly in the background. Your journal stays on this machine.
Run mode
Lower app memory when Kairos is not on screen. Your journal keeps recording in the background.
System alerts
Notify after sustained freeze risk, or when the OS records a hang. Alerts include likely reasons and current CPU, memory, and thermal stats.
Off by default. Kairos waits for repeated pressure readings and suppresses duplicate alerts.
Show explanations in the dashboard and briefing when Kairos detects a crash, hang, or threshold violation — including likely reasons and current system state.
Tune when Kairos treats CPU, memory, and thermal load as elevated. Lower values make alerts fire sooner.
Privacy
Modes control how much of your day is recorded. Standard + File activity On is the recommended journal path.
Connect
Any named collaborator is a row — Cursor, VS Code, MCP, or a terminal paste. One click (or one line). Claims stay on this machine in ~/.kairos/, not inside the editor. Switch tools, keep the history. Same idea on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Collection
When On (Standard or Full), Kairos records file touches under your work folders so Ask can cite files, not only app names. Works on macOS, Linux, and Windows using each OS watcher. macOS may ask for folder access the first time.
When On, local agent tools can add claim rows to the same Today journal on any OS. Ask can cite those claims next to observed focus and files — quiet entries, not a grade scoreboard. Off in Paused / Minimal. Wipe clears claims with the journal.
Named collaborators seen on this computer — turn each one on or off. Notes are diary lines they write. Grades like Corroborated stay off until Kairos can check file syscalls.
Data
Choose any number of days, or keep history forever. Expiry removes records—not the app, settings, access, or trial.
Permanently removes journal sessions, file touches, claims, notes, health events, and related graph links in that range. Derived insights are reset so deleted history cannot remain in learned summaries.
App Exclusions
Excluded apps are never recorded. Pick from installed apps on this machine — free-text names are not allowed.
App sensitivity
How much detail Kairos may keep for each app on this machine — nothing is shared off-device. Observed apps use a built-in default; override anytime. Browse installed apps to set one before it appears in the journal.
What's stored
Your local journal counts, plus a scan for shapes that could identify you (home-folder names, email-like names). Nothing leaves this machine.
Privacy audit
Local log of privacy and collection actions on this machine (append-only).
Access
Paid access is for this computer. Laptop and desktop are two computers — use Replace this computer (or buy again) to switch. Copying Kairos files to another machine is not supported and will show a clear error.
—
Unique to this install. Needed for Recover and Replace.
—
Only if you got a new key from Replace or another purchase. This computer is already activated.
Remove Kairos
Three different things. Pick one — they are not the same.
Clear the journal
Kairos stays installed. Deletes recorded days, Ask follow-up memory, and related files on this computer. Access and trial stay. Cannot be undone.
Remove the app, keep the journal
Quit Kairos, then delete the app. Your data folder stays so a later install can pick it up.
Remove the app and the journal
Uninstall Kairos and delete the data folder on this computer. Cannot be undone.
Feedback
Send a note to the Kairos team. No email required — optional name, description, and screenshot only.
